World Time Zone Map
A world time zone map shows how local standard time changes as you travel east or west. Natural Earth draws 40 different UTC offsets, from UTC−12:00 to UTC+14:00.
- UTC offset. How many hours and minutes local standard time is ahead of or behind Coordinated Universal Time, the time at the prime meridian. Earth turns 15 degrees of longitude per hour. Source

What the map shows
Each color band is one standard time zone, counted as an offset UTC offset. How many hours and minutes local standard time is ahead of or behind Coordinated Universal Time, the time at the prime meridian. Earth turns 15 degrees of longitude per hour. Source from Coordinated Universal Time. The numbers along the bottom are whole-hour offsets, placed 15 degrees of longitude apart. Tap a zone to see its offset and the places in it. Over the oceans the zones follow straight meridians; on land they bend to follow national borders.
The zone shapes come from Natural Earth. Its time zone layer was made in 2012 from a CIA World Factbook map and has not had offset updates since, so it shows the world as of 2012. Some places have changed since then and are wrong on this map: most of Russia moved its clocks back one hour in 2014, Venezuela moved from UTC-04:30 to UTC-04:00 in 2016, Turkey moved to UTC+03:00 in 2016, Sudan and South Sudan moved to UTC+02:00 (2017, 2021), Kazakhstan moved to one zone at UTC+05:00 in March 2024, and parts of Greenland, Chile, Paraguay and western and central Canada moved to new year-round offsets between 2023 and 2026. Check a current clock before you plan a call or a trip.
Key facts
- Earth turns 360 degrees in 24 hours, or 15 degrees of longitude an hour. That is why a whole-hour time zone is about 15 degrees wide. NOAA Ocean Service, What is longitude?
- The prime meridian through Greenwich, England, is 0 degrees longitude. The antimeridian on the other side of Earth is at 180 degrees. NOAA Ocean Service, What is longitude?
- Natural Earth draws 40 different offsets, a spread of 26 hours from UTC−12:00 to UTC+14:00. Natural Earth
- 13 offsets are not whole hours. 3 of them are 45 minutes off the hour: UTC+05:45 (Nepal); UTC+08:45 (Australia (Eucla)); UTC+12:45 (Chatham Islands). Natural Earth
- UTC+14:00, the furthest ahead, covers Kiribati (Line Islands), Tokelau. Natural Earth
- India runs on one zone, UTC+05:30, shared with Sri Lanka. Natural Earth
